Who Is Farmers Mutual of Tennessee?
It would be difficult to find a better symbol to represent our country and our state than the farmer. With courage and determination farmers tilled the soil, tended livestock and established a farming tradition throughout this land. The continuation of the tradition has not been without its difficulties. At times it has been necessary for farming communities to work together to preserve their heritage.
Such was the case on July 12, 1913, when one hundred Knox County farmers met in Market Hall to organize the Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company. Little did they know at the time just how successful their efforts would be. All they knew was that fire protection and insurance availability was inadequate for their needs. As members of a community with shared problems they came together to find a solution.
As the complexion of the farm community and Tennessee has changed, Farmers Mutual of Tennessee changed to provide the best possible service to its members. Nearly 100 years after its founding, Farmers Mutual of Tennessee has grown to provide insurance coverage statewide while maintaining the mutual philosophy of neighbors protecting neighbors which is foundational to the products and services we offer today.
